Do Not Delete Your eSIM Before Your Trip Is Over

Do not delete your travel eSIM until you have finished using it. Turning off a line and deleting a cellular plan are different actions. A deleted eSIM generally cannot be installed again with the same QR code.

Turning off or deleting an eSIM: what is the difference?

ActionWhat happensWhen to use it
Turn off the lineThe profile stays on the phone but no longer uses mobile data.During a stopover, after returning home or while testing a setting.
Delete the eSIMThe profile is removed from the device.Only after the plan is finished and you are certain you no longer need it.

Why should you wait before deleting an eSIM?

  • An eSIM QR code is often single-use.
  • Deleting the profile does not necessarily stop the plan’s validity period.
  • If your trip is not over, you could lose access to unused data.
  • Customer support may need screenshots or line details to troubleshoot a problem.

If the eSIM is not working, do not delete it as a first step. Check the selected data line, data roaming, airplane mode and the activation instructions supplied with the plan.

What should you do on iPhone?

  1. Open Settings > Cellular or Mobile Data.
  2. Select the VoyageSIM line.
  3. To pause it, turn off Turn On This Line or choose another line for mobile data.
  4. Use Delete eSIM only after the plan is finished.

Menu names vary by iOS version and region. See our iPhone eSIM installation guide.

What should you do on Android?

  1. Open the connection, network or SIM settings.
  2. Select the VoyageSIM eSIM.
  3. Temporarily turn off the line instead of choosing Delete, Erase or Remove.
  4. Delete the profile only after you have permanently finished using it.

The exact menu path varies across Samsung, Google Pixel and other manufacturers.

Deleted your eSIM by mistake?

Do not repeatedly scan the same code. Keep your order email and contact VoyageSIM support with the order number, phone model and displayed error message. Reinstallation or replacement depends on the plan and its status; a deleted profile cannot always be recovered.

When is it safe to delete the eSIM?

Wait until the trip is over, you no longer need the data and any support case is resolved. You can then delete the profile from the phone settings.

Frequently asked questions

Does turning off the eSIM stop its validity?

Not necessarily. Plan duration depends on its activation rules, not only on whether the line is enabled on the phone.

Can I transfer a travel eSIM to another phone?

Most travel eSIMs do not transfer automatically. Check the plan conditions before switching devices.

Should I delete my eSIM after every trip?

You may delete it after the plan is finished and you no longer need it, but there is generally no need to do so immediately.

Before your next trip, check the list of eSIM-compatible phones and browse VoyageSIM travel data plans.
