Bell charged roaming despite my travel eSIM: what should I check?
Adding a travel eSIM does not automatically disable your Bell line. If roaming appears on your bill, check the dates, destination, listed services and settings for each line before deciding what caused the charge. Bell alone can confirm the exact usage and fees on your account.
Start with the bill and your Bell plan
- Identify the billed days and the service shown: data, calls, texts, a roaming option or something else.
- Compare those entries with your trip and the conditions of your Bell plan or travel pass.
- In MyBell or with Bell support, request details of what triggered each fee and dispute any confirmed error.
Terms and prices vary by plan and destination. Check Bell's official travel options for current conditions.
Review both phone lines
In cellular settings, confirm that VoyageSIM is selected for mobile data and check whether automatic cellular data switching is enabled. Review data roaming on the Bell line separately from roaming on the travel eSIM: some travel eSIMs require roaming on their own line. Keeping Bell active for calls and texts may have billing consequences under your plan even while the eSIM handles data.
Avoid another surprise
Before travel, check device compatibility and unlock status, install the eSIM over reliable Wi-Fi, and decide which Bell services you need to keep. If banking codes arrive by SMS, read our banking SMS and eSIM guide before turning off a line. Our SIM line settings guide explains what to review. Frequently asked questions
Does a VoyageSIM eSIM prevent all Bell roaming charges?
No. The eSIM provides data under its own plan; Bell services and roaming options remain subject to Bell's terms.
Must I turn off my Bell line entirely?
That depends on whether you need calls and texts and on your plan terms. Ask Bell to confirm any possible charges before departure.
