iPhone Air Travel eSIM: Setup and Data Plans | VoyageSIM

VoyageSIM · iPhone Air travel eSIM guide

Travelling with an iPhone Air? Apple's eSIM-only phone has no physical SIM tray. You can install a prepaid travel eSIM for mobile data abroad while keeping your Canadian number on your main line, provided your main carrier has activated it as an eSIM.

Is iPhone Air compatible with VoyageSIM travel eSIMs?

Yes. iPhone Air supports eSIM and does not accept physical SIM cards. Apple specifies two active eSIMs at the same time and storage for eight or more eSIMs. Your phone must be carrier-unlocked to use plans from different providers. VoyageSIM supplies prepaid travel mobile data, not a new Canadian phone number, traditional calls or SMS.

What to know about iPhone Air before leaving Canada

  • No physical SIM slot: a nano-SIM card from an older phone cannot be inserted into iPhone Air.
  • Your Canadian number: if your current number is still on a physical SIM in another phone, contact your home carrier to move that service to an eSIM on iPhone Air. VoyageSIM cannot transfer your existing Canadian number.
  • Dual eSIM: you can keep a main eSIM and a travel eSIM active when allowed by your operators and device lock status.
  • Data-only service: travel eSIM data is separate from calling and texting on your home number.

How to install a VoyageSIM eSIM on iPhone Air

  1. Check before buying: confirm your phone is unlocked under Settings > General > About, in the carrier-lock area, and ensure the plan covers your destinations.
  2. Choose a plan: select the data allowance and validity you need. After a valid purchase, follow the eSIM setup information delivered by email.
  3. Install using Wi-Fi: open Settings > Cellular > Add eSIM. Use the supplied QR code or manual details. Depending on iOS version, touching and holding a QR code shown in a supported app or browser may also let you install it.
  4. Label the lines: for example, “Primary” for your Canadian carrier and “VoyageSIM” for travel data.
  5. When abroad: select VoyageSIM for Cellular Data, then follow the travel plan instructions, including roaming on the travel eSIM if required.
  6. Check your home line: review roaming and cellular data switching settings to prevent unexpected Canadian carrier charges.

For more help, see the VoyageSIM iPhone installation guide and Apple's official eSIM setup instructions.

Important: some plans start their validity at installation, others on first connection to a supported network. Check the exact activation policy before installing too early.

Can you keep your number, WhatsApp and iMessage?

Yes, your usual number can remain on the main line if it is active as an eSIM. WhatsApp, Messenger, Google Maps and other internet apps can use the selected travel data connection. iMessage and FaceTime may continue working with your Apple Account and line setup.

However, bank verification SMS, traditional carrier calls and any roaming fees on your Canadian line are governed by your home operator. A data-only VoyageSIM eSIM cannot independently receive normal SMS sent to your Canadian mobile number.

iPhone Air travel eSIM troubleshooting

The eSIM is installed but mobile internet is not working

Confirm VoyageSIM is selected for Cellular Data and the plan has reached its activation window. Follow the specific roaming settings for the travel eSIM, then briefly toggle Airplane Mode if needed. Check local partner coverage.

You cannot scan the QR code on the same phone

Open the QR code on another device, use a supported long-press option in iOS, or enter manual installation details if they were provided. Do not delete an installed eSIM without consulting support: some eSIM profiles cannot be reinstalled simply.

You want to avoid home-carrier roaming charges

Check the Canadian line's roaming and automatic cellular data switching settings. If you will not need carrier voice or SMS abroad, temporarily turning off the home line may be appropriate, but that can prevent incoming verification messages.

iPhone Air travel eSIM — frequently asked questions

Does iPhone Air have a SIM card slot?

No. Apple confirms iPhone Air is eSIM-only and cannot use a physical SIM card.

Can iPhone Air use two eSIMs?

Yes. Apple lists two simultaneously active eSIMs and storage for eight or more eSIMs. The device must be unlocked to use different operators.

Does a VoyageSIM eSIM replace my regular Canadian plan?

No. VoyageSIM provides data at the chosen destination. Your main eSIM can remain available for your Canadian number, subject to your carrier terms.

Can I install a QR code using the same iPhone Air?

Depending on iOS version and the app displaying it, touching and holding the QR code may offer eSIM installation. Otherwise, show the code on another screen or use supplied manual details.

Should data roaming be enabled on iPhone Air?

Some travel eSIMs require roaming enabled on the VoyageSIM line. That does not mean roaming needs to be enabled on your main Canadian line. Follow the plan-specific instructions.

Can a data-only eSIM receive bank SMS verification codes?

No, not on its own. Such codes sent to your Canadian number require your home carrier's line and corresponding service to remain available, potentially with charges.
