Airport Wi-Fi not working? How to use your eSIM when you arrive

Connected to Wi-Fi without internet access? Can’t open the sign-in page or find a network? Your next step depends on one question: is the eSIM already installed on your phone?

Two situations, two next steps

eSIM already installed

Switch mobile data to VoyageSIM

At your destination, within coverage, turn off the unreliable Wi-Fi, select VoyageSIM for mobile data and enable roaming on that eSIM if your plan instructions call for it. Test a webpage.

Find a connection to download the profile

Installation generally needs an internet connection. Try the airport’s Wi-Fi sign-in page, another trusted network, an allowed hotspot or your accommodation’s Wi-Fi. Watch for possible charges on your Canadian line.

Wi-Fi says “connected,” but nothing loads

  1. Confirm the airport network’s name using an official sign or information desk.
  2. Open a browser to check whether a sign-in or terms page appears. Some public networks use a captive portal.
  3. If that page does not appear, turn Wi-Fi off and on, reconnect and retry. You can also choose another available and trusted network.
  4. If your eSIM is installed and your destination is covered, turn off the airport Wi-Fi to test VoyageSIM mobile data.

Avoid entering banking details on a network whose identity you have not verified.

Installed eSIM, but no mobile data?

Confirm your destination is covered, select VoyageSIM as the data line and set roaming on that eSIM as your instructions require. Allow a few minutes, then restart if needed. Do not delete the eSIM profile to reinstall it; ask support first.

If your Canadian line stays on for calls or texts, check possible charges with your home carrier. Turning off its data roaming does not necessarily prevent every charge.

Frequently asked questions

Can I install my eSIM without airport Wi-Fi?

Yes, if you have another usable internet connection: a trusted network, a permitted hotspot or mobile data already active. Without a connection, wait for another internet source and keep your installation email.

Does an already installed eSIM need Wi-Fi?

No, not to use mobile data once the line is ready and you are within a covered destination. Turn off the failing Wi-Fi to properly test the mobile connection.

What if my phone says “No Service”?

Check coverage, whether the line is turned on and the roaming setting required by the plan. Follow the eSIM troubleshooting guide and contact VoyageSIM if the network still does not appear. Do not delete the eSIM.

Should I install it before departure?

Often, this avoids relying on airport Wi-Fi. First check when plan validity starts; terms vary. Read the predeparture checklist.
