Travel eSIM for kids: their own phone or a parent’s hotspot?

To give a child internet access abroad, you can install a data plan on their compatible phone or temporarily share a parent’s connection. The best choice depends on how independently they need to stay connected.

Option 1 • Child’s phone

A data eSIM on their device

Your child can use apps, maps and internet messaging even when away from the parent. First check eSIM compatibility, whether the phone is unlocked, coverage and the plan terms.

Share a parent’s hotspot

The parent can turn on their phone’s Wi-Fi hotspot so the child’s device connects while nearby. The plan, phone and network must permit hotspot use.
